Bespoke: As good as it gets.

In a world too globalized that Tee shirt and Bermudas would do just fine at the work place, you ask what's the place of fashion, particularly that of the Indian fashion industry within the world! Did the handlooms that are abuzz and clacking in remote villages and homes of India really disappear?

Well, these are the problems that the Indian fashion industry appears to be facing at this point of time, except for a business/industry as old as our civilization itself, that’s not a scare.

So, browse on if you are inquisitive about this industry in our country.

It’s not (only) about Fashion Designers

Actually, the fashion industry isn't solely concerning fashion designers. There’s a full extent of different roles within the industry that creates up what we have a tendency to see on the runways and in malls.

The fashion industry in India, like in the other country is also concerning fashion photography, pattern creating, garment construction, accessory designing, make-up artists, modelling, cloth weaving, textile analysis and development, fashion journalism/editorial, and manufacturing to  name a few.

Fashion industry statistics

However, Indian fashion accounts for a skimpy 0.2% in the world market. Nevertheless, this can be expected as Indian fashion has simply rolled over from infancy to the expansion stage.

The signs are everywhere- growing range of designers, boutiques and shops, design colleges and... customers!

Famous Indian Designers

Ritu Verma, Rohit Bal, Manish Malhotra, Sabyasachi- these are the names that not only we are familiar with, but are commendable international names.

If they could do it, then anyone else can do it, even you, for that matter. Their style sensibilities draw from Indian traditions and they have played a vital role in showcasing our culture to the world.

Silk & Cotton

We are the second largest producer of Silk (after China) and third largest producer of Cotton. With such a background and surplus, it's solely natural that almost all of our fashion would use these materials.

It is heart-warming to envision all the designers of our generation bringing back the humble khadi and handloom materials, innovated to suit our tastes. Khadi/Cotton is our pride and getting it replaced with artificial materials following different countries had had a backlash on ancient materials.

Bright prospects for the style business, but a long way to go

So all said and done, India has still a long way to travel in carving a distinct segment for itself within the world’s fashion scene. If you thought that our business is mature and is aware of what it is doing, then I disagree.

In terms of quality, in terms of talent, the research and innovation, we have a lot to prove. Once you see the exhibition and then our own turf, you'll straight off see the distinction – from the approach the fashion show is displayed to the accessories used to the expertness.

Miles to go before we could be able to discover our confident and cozy area! And then, we can sedately say, Namaste.
